As an Amazon Critical Infrastructure Field Engineer, you will provide full life‑cycle support to AWS data centers from design inception through site improvement and maintenance. You will be the go‑to engineering resource in your region, offering technical advice, collaborating with diverse teams, and ensuring safety and reliability across a large geographic area.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as the recognized fire protection engineering expert for a broad range of fire and life safety issues.
- Develop relationships with authorities having jurisdiction to better serve customers and the community.
- Perform design and equipment submittal review for new data centers.
- Troubleshoot and conduct root‑cause analysis (RCA), creating corrective action (CA) documentation for site/equipment failures.
- Support operational issues with ad‑hoc training, complex operating procedure reviews, and event support.
- Mentor and train customers and partner engineers in fire protection principles.
- Own conceptual design for existing data‑center upgrades and design solutions to add capacity, improve availability, increase efficiency and sustainability.
- Interface with internal teams (operations, design, server hardware, environmental health and safety) to promote consistent and reliable service standards.
- Develop innovative solutions for AWS’s data centers.
- Manage concurrent projects across multiple geographical regions.
- Initiate and lead engineering audits, including on‑site visits, and produce reports with risk mitigation recommendations.
- Act as resident engineer during new construction projects, supporting construction, commissioning and turnover.
- Experience with fire and building codes and standards such as NFPA, NEC, FM Global, IFC, and IBC.
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering or equivalent.
- Knowledge of fire alarm and fire suppression system installation, operation and design.
- Strong engineering judgment, detail‑oriented, and data‑driven.
- Experience solving problems with engineered solutions and managing engineering projects and consultants.
- Ability to build trust and relationships across stakeholders (operations, controls, construction, design, commissioning, product managers, program managers).
- Adaptability and willingness to work in the field.
- Professional Engineer license.
- Experience with building codes and regulations for your region.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development and deployment or mass production.
- Experience reading, interpreting and creating construction drawings, specifications and submittal documents.
- Three or more years working directly with government officials and regulatory bodies.
- Experience with fire hazards analysis, hazard mitigation analysis and alternative means for hazardous materials and energy storage systems.
- Competitive base salary (USD 116,800–160,000 annually).
