Position SummaryThe Lift Truck Field Technician is responsible for performing jobs involving servicing and repair of equipment, working both independently and on a team. The candidate must be able to evaluate and repair internal combustion lift trucks, electric lift trucks, allied products, and diesel engines. The role requires completion of extensive on‑job training, classroom instruction, and e‑learning to remain in the technician training program.
The technician will demonstrate initiative, commitment to teamwork, enthusiasm for customer service, and dedication to finding solutions efficiently. The position offers advancement in classification based on attitude, skill level, and job performance.
- Plan and perform minor repairs using correct tools and procedures.
- Order and return parts for assigned jobs in a timely manner.
- Perform work on basic components in the work area, including engine, hydraulic, transmission, and electrical components: remove and install; disassemble and reassemble; perform minor adjustments.
- Perform preventive maintenance service according to factory guidelines.
- Demonstrate proper use of service information systems.
- Work in field service as an experienced technician as required.
- Follow all applicable safety standards and procedures.
- Work independently in the field as required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical training or education preferred.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience involving mechanical repairs or a combination of relevant experience and equivalent technical education.
- Experience using personal computers and basic typing skills.
- Intermediate engine, transmission, hydraulic, electrical diagnostic, and repair skills.
- Written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Area‑specific technical training.
- OSHA and MSHA required training.
- Vendor technical software (Infocast, Liftnet, SIMSi, etc.).
- Work normally performed in a Lift Truck Service Department shop or at customer job sites.
- Exposure to physical risk and all‑weather conditions.
- Standing on hard surfaces for extended periods.
- Pass pre‑employment background check, physical exam (including drug screen), and meet all physical requirements for the position.
- Able to speak, listen, write, and type effectively.
- Reaching, grasping, and stooping.
- Kneeling and crawling under equipment.
- Climbing ladders and equipment.
- Lifting and carrying up to 75 lb.
- Material handling and lifting.
- Exposure to chemicals and construction environments.
- Operation of cranes, hoisting, and moving or stationary machinery.
- Noise and eye hazards.
- Risk of slips, trips, and falls.
- Potential for lacerations, amputations, strains, and sprains.
- Heat exhaustion or cold stress.
- Electrical hazards.
