ResponsibilitiesThe Driver is responsible for ensuring the safe transporting and arrival of products, in a timely manner, to our customers and other store locations. Responsibilities include driving, route sequencing, order verification, loading and unloading orders into company/customer vehicle, return service, sharing feedback from customers, as well as maintenance, upkeep, and repairs of the company vehicles and warehouse equipment. The Driver position is required to possess a valid drivers’ license at all times and must meet all state and federal driving regulations.
- Maintains positive relationships with customers by providing exceptional service that includes accurate and timely delivery of products.
- Serves as a key field contact for gathering accurate customer service and delivery expectations.
- Safely operates company vehicles and equipment consistent with DOT, state, federal, and company standards.
- Maintains cleanliness of inside of truck, cab, box, and all assigned work areas.
- Performs routine inspections and preventative maintenance on assigned vehicle(s)/equipment; refers defects, issues, or needs for repairs to supervisor promptly.
- Loads and unloads trucks. Checks and verifies deliveries against sales and transfer orders.
- Prepares routes and follows schedules and deadlines for delivery, shipping, receiving, and other related tasks.
- Drives straight body vehicles including box truck to deliver supplies and equipment to customer’s place of business, job site, or other Johnstone store locations.
- Maintains telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive expedited delivery instructions, utilizing communication methods safely and in accordance with all requirements and expectations.
- Immediately communicates delivery, traffic, safety, and customer issues to supervisor.
- Record sales and/or delivery information as applicable. Completes manifest with pictures, signatures, and any returns by way of iPad or manual completion.
- Returns vehicle at end of day, verifying it is fully fueled; completes monthly driver log and any associated paperwork; ensures the vehicle is secured.
- Returns gas receipts, monies, vehicle inspection logs, and any other paperwork necessary.
- When not driving, shares day-to-day warehouse operations responsibilities as a material handler.
- May be assigned on-site inventory-related responsibilities at customer site.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Required:
High School Diploma/GED; 1+ years of truck driving experience (26 ft vehicle or larger) or 1 year operating Johnstone equipment/vehicles under supervision; or equivalent combination of education and experience. - Preferred:
- 6+ months of experience in a warehouse and/or distribution facility, preferably in HVAC/R or related field.
- Experience with a picker, RF scanner, and inventory management systems.
- Experience driving a forklift.
- Knowledge of HVAC wholesale industry, principles, and practices.
- Previous experience with OSHA and safety regulations and procedures.
- Must have a valid drivers’ license with a driving record indicating a safe driving history acceptable to the company; must remain eligible at all times to drive a commercial motor vehicle under applicable state and federal laws and FMCSA regulations.
- CDL preferred.
- Forklift certification preferred.
