JOB SUMMARY
This position reports directly to the Food Service Manager. The Food Service Assistant assists in the preparation, cooking and serving of meals; cleaning of equipment and kitchen; and delivery of meals to rooms.
DUTIES- Prepare food and serve it in a timely manner
- Maintain the kitchen in a sanitary condition at all times
- Adhere to all USDA guidelines as it relates to food preparation
- Adhere to all County Regulations as it relates to facility cleanliness and maintenance
- Assist in the preparation of various types of food as directed by the Manager
- Perform skilled cooking tasks
- Clean kitchen equipment
- Responsible for appropriate distribution of food to classes
- Wash dishes as required
- Open to new ideas in cooking and actively involved in upgrading the food with regard to taste, appearance, and nutritional value
- May act as lead in absence of Food Service Manager.
- Serves the children as required.
- Plans and implements menus according to published guidelines in conjunction with the Food Service Manager.
- Receives and stores foods upon delivery.
- Assist with record keeping as required.
- Assist with other center duties as assigned to include restocking paper towels, tissue and some light mopping.
- Positively project the organization, goals, philosophies, and policies to Customers, Associates and the community.
- Model flexibility and an openness to changed in kitchen operation.
- Meet all training requirements.
- One year experience in a school lunch room or similar operation
- Must possess a CPR/First Aid certificate or obtain one within 3 months.
- High school diploma or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of preparation methods, food storage procedures
- Must maintain an acceptable level of personal hygiene.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, pull or stack objects not to exceed 25 lbs
- Warm personality and an accepting attitude toward young children and parents.
- A keen desire to work with children.
- Ability and willingness to work with numerous interruptions and distractions.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively with others demonstrating tact, diplomacy and sensitivity to their concerns
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with other staff members
- Sound literacy and numeracy skills.
- Alert, observant, active and able to use judgement and initiative.
- Ability to lift equipment.
