Mechanical Engineer, Engineering Design & Technologists
Position Purpose
The Mechanical Engineer (ME) supports the design of complex structures, machinery, and rigging systems for live entertainment, themed attractions, and experiential environments through engineering analysis using structural and mechanical methods. Responsibilities include applying core physics and engineering principles to validate solutions while effectively communicating results in a fast‑paced, collaborative setting. Coordination with project managers, designers, and all project team members is essential, along with oversight of third‑party engineering resources.
Success in this role requires a strong foundation in engineering, commitment to precision and ethical standards, and the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
Essential Responsibilities- Apply understanding of physics and engineering principles to solve complex, real‑world challenges
- Engineer structures, machinery, and rigging systems that meet client specifications, jurisdictional requirements, and relevant codes and standards
- Analyze and validate designs using hand calculations, proprietary tools, and advanced simulation software, clearly communicating results in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment
- Maintain awareness of standard solutions within TAIT’s markets, product lines, and platforms
- Support the development and integration of new technologies to strengthen TAIT’s market position
- Coordinate closely with project managers, mechanical designers, and other stakeholders to align engineering efforts with project goals
- Manage activities of outside resources/third‑party engineering firms regarding assigned functions on projects
- Collaborate with clients, suppliers, contractors, and external professional bodies to ensure successful project outcomes
- Support bid teams through validation of proposed solutions using the appropriate level of engineering rigor and with the correct mindset
- Collaborate with all departments in a design and manufacturing environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics or Physics required.
- Engineering experience
- Mechanical
- 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience with an emphasis in machine design or mechanical systems
- Working knowledge of multiple topics of mechanical engineering science and practice (power transmission design and analysis, exact constraint design, material science, stress analysis, mechanical connection engineering, dynamic analysis, fatigue analysis)
- Proficient in finite element analysis (FEA) principles with ANSYS Mechanical or equivalent software experience OR
- Structural
- 5+ years of structural engineering experience with an emphasis in stress analysis
- Working knowledge of multiple topics of structural engineering science and practice (stress and deflection of structures, design for global environmental conditions, connection engineering, aluminum structures, dynamic analysis)
- Proficient in structural analysis with RISA‑3D or equivalent software experience
- Mechanical
- 2+ years of entertainment experience (preferred)
- Flexibility to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity, and rapid change
- Possess a strong work ethic, sense of urgency, and decisiveness
- Willingness to extend working hours when necessary to meet project deadlines
- Willingness to travel infrequently, domestic and international, for projects or to other TAIT offices to improve collaboration
