General OverviewThe Engineering Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing engineering projects from initiation through completion. This role oversees project scope, schedules, budgets, client communication, and technical execution while ensuring projects are delivered in alignment with company quality standards, regulatory requirements, and client expectations.
The Engineering Project Manager serves as a primary point of contact for clients and internal project teams and collaborates with engineers, designers, field personnel, contractors, and regulatory agencies throughout all phases of project delivery. This position requires strong leadership, technical understanding, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously within a consulting engineering environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Manage engineering projects from proposal development through final completion.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, staffing plans, and deliverables.
- Serve as the primary client contact and maintain strong client relationships.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams and project resources.
- Monitor project progress and ensure adherence to scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
- Prepare project status reports, cost projections, and resource forecasts.
- Review engineering plans, specifications, reports, and technical documents for quality and accuracy.
- Coordinate permitting activities and regulatory agency communications.
- Lead project meetings with clients, contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
- Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies as necessary.
- Support business development efforts including proposal preparation, client presentations, and relationship management.
- Assist with contract review, scope negotiations, and change order management.
- Ensure compliance with company quality assurance and safety standards.
- Mentor junior engineering and technical staff.
- Support construction administration activities and field coordination when required.
- Collaborate with department leadership on operational and strategic initiatives.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and records.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Strong knowledge of engineering project management principles and practices.
- Understanding of engineering design processes, construction practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and time management skills.
- Strong client relationship management and communication abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously.
- Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making capabilities.
- Proficiency in project management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to interpret engineering plans, specifications, contracts, and technical documents.
- Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and project financial management.
- Strong technical writing and presentation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Understanding of risk management and quality control procedures.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or required depending on discipline.
- Minimum of 5–10 years of progressive engineering experience.
- Prior project management experience within consulting, municipal, utility, or infrastructure environments preferred.
- Experience managing budgets, schedules, and client relationships required.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use standard office equipment for extended periods.
- Occasional field visits to project sites and construction environments may be required.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to travel to client meetings, project locations, and company offices as needed.
- Work may include both office and outdoor field environments in varying weather conditions.
- Frequent use of computers, phones, and virtual meeting platforms.
