Surgical Assistant (All-on-X Focus) Position Summary

The Surgical Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the surgical team during All-on-X and full-arch implant procedures. This role ensures each surgery is executed efficiently, safely, and with the highest level of patient care. The Surgical Assistant helps prepare and maintain the surgical environment, assists chairside throughout procedures, and supports both the clinical and prosthetic aspects of the All-on-X workflow.

Key Responsibilities Surgical Assistance & Clinical Support
  • Assist chairside during All‑on‑X, full‑arch implant, bone grafting, extractions, and other surgical procedures.
  • Anticipate the surgeon’s needs by preparing and passing instruments, materials, and surgical components efficiently.
  • Support guided surgery cases, including scanning, surgical guide preparation, and real‑time adjustments during procedures.
  • Assist with PRF/PRP preparation, bone graft handling, and prosthetic conversions as directed.
  • Maintain an aseptic environment throughout procedures, following OSHA, CDC, and infection control standards.
  • Take digital radiographs, CBCT scans, and intraoral photographs as required.
  • Accurately chart surgical details and document procedural notes in Dentrix and related systems.
Pre-Operative & Post-Operative Care
  • Prepare patients for surgery by reviewing medical history, verifying consents, and taking vitals.
  • Provide compassionate support before, during, and after sedation procedures.
  • Assist with patient recovery monitoring and postoperative care instructions.
  • Follow up with patients post‑surgery as directed to ensure optimal healing and satisfaction.
  • Communicate with the surgical coordinator and lab team regarding case needs and post‑op deliverables.
Equipment, Sterilization & Lab Coordination
  • Prepare and maintain surgical operatories, instruments, and implant kits for All‑on‑X procedures.
  • Disinfect and sterilize instruments, handpieces, and surgical trays according to OSHA and CDC guidelines.
  • Monitor, restock, and organize surgical supplies, including implants, drills, healing abutments, and prosthetic components.
  • Maintain calibration and readiness of surgical equipment such as implant motors, CBCT, and handpieces.
  • Coordinate with the lab team on pre‑surgical model work, impressions, and delivery of immediate load prosthetics.
Team Collaboration & Clinical Excellence
  • Collaborate with the surgical and prosthetic teams to ensure seamless execution of All‑on‑X surgeries and follow‑up appointments.
  • Participate in team meetings, continuing education, and case reviews to improve workflow and patient outcomes.
  • Support office‑wide surgical efficiency and excellence through feedback and process improvement.
  • Represent the Mor Smiles culture of teamwork, professionalism, and patient‑centered care.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of dental or surgical assisting experience (All‑on‑X or full‑arch experience strongly preferred).
  • Dental Radiology and CPR/BLS certification required; ACLS certification preferred.
  • In‑depth understanding of dental and surgical terminology, aseptic technique, and implant procedures.
  • Experience with Dentrix, digital imaging systems, and CBCT preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to remain composed in a fast‑paced surgical setting.
