Overview of the Role:

The Director of Environmental, Health and Safety will lead the development and execution of strategies that ensure regulatory compliance, reduce risk, and foster a proactive safety culture across the organization. This strategic, hands‑on role collaborates closely with internal teams and external partners, serving as the primary liaison for EHS matters. This role is expected to drive all work prioritization based on criticality and business implications.

While the position currently has no direct reports, it will shape future organizational structure based on business needs.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Culture

  • Cultivate a Proactive Safety Culture: Champion a company‑wide safety‑first mindset, utilizing programs like near‑miss reporting and STOP program to drive awareness, engagement, and continuous improvement in safety performance, in alignment with Woodstream’s core values.
  • Lead Safety Governance: Lead the Safety Steering Committee and ensure active safety committees and designated safety leads are established and effective at all operational sites.
  • Determine & Develop Future Organization: Assess business needs and feasibility to strategically build the EHS team structure with operations leadership as the business grows. Leverage external partner network for meeting business needs.
  • Oversee Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all EHS activities, policies, and procedures adhere to applicable federal, state, and local regulations across all corporate facilities and the extended supply chain.
  • Drive Risk Reduction: Lead efforts to proactively identify hazards, implement effective corrective and preventative measures, and reduce the frequency and cost of work‑related injuries.
  • Manage Incident Lifecycle: Oversee incident tracking, support root cause analysis (e.g., 5‑Why reviews), and ensure the timely completion of all corrective actions.

Program Development & Implementation

  • Develop and Execute EHS Programs: Design, implement, and manage comprehensive EHS programs and workflows, including chemical approvals/disposals, industrial hygiene requirements such as hearing conservation, respiratory protection, ergonomics, and pandemic response plans. Partner with locations to develop, train, implement, and monitor requisite systems. Identify minimum standards and best practices for the organization.
  • Lead Environmental Stewardship: Provide oversight and direction on all environmental issues, including waste management disposal, storm water programs, regulatory reporting, and act as the corporate liaison for environmental remediation projects with consulting teams.
