Summary

Provides support to cashiers and customer service desks by performing the following duties:

Responsibilities
  • Duties and responsibilities below are in addition to those of the Customer Service Team Member.
  • Assists customers by helping them to locate products or merchandise and answering questions.
  • Operates a computerized cash register by using an electronic scanner to record price or entering data to process customer purchases.
  • Redeems promotional coupons, Ace Rewards, gift certificates and gift cards.
  • Collects cash, check or charge payment from customer and makes change for cash transactions.
  • Resolves pricing errors. Works with other employees of the store to research pricing on items that do not scan or are missing bar codes.
  • Observes customer activity on sales floor; notes suspicious behavior, discourages shoplifting; seeks help from management when needed.
  • Stocks shelves and maintains merchandise in Check-Out area.
  • Maintains check-out area by retrieving shopping carts, vacuuming vestibule, and performing general housekeeping duties.
  • Regularly ensures the cleanliness of the checkout area.
  • Prepares for the opening and closing of the store. Unlocks the main entrance to open the store in the morning; ensures door is locked at closing.
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
  • Maintain a friendly and respectful attitude towards customers and coworkers.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • The shift lead’s priority is to provide and ensure service to our customers. There are no duties and responsibilities that will take precedence over this.
  • Constantly monitors the performance of staff and ensures compliance with expectations including greeting incoming customers and taking proper breaks.
  • Keeps a working knowledge of all customer service procedures.
  • Informs staff of daily communications.
  • Provides direction and guidance to cashiers in the following areas:
    Customer Complaints, System Problems, Computer Problems, Price Discrepancies
  • Assists the department manager in the implementation of procedure changes.
  • Reviews circulars and promotional advertisements and reports promotions to cashiers.
  • May assist with the training of new employees on the register and other store procedures.
  • May assist with the ordering of product and merchandise for the check-out and customer service areas, such as candy, register supplies, postage stamps and licensing materials.
  • Checks inventory in Eagle system as needed.
  • Ensures the completion of closing procedures; doors locked, money in safe, evening tasks completed.
  • May assist with annual inventory.
  • Prepares lobby and front of store for storms.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent OR one to three months related experience and/or training
  • Prior Supervisory experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work weekday evenings and an every other Saturday rotation.
  • Full Time (approximately 40 hours weekly)
  • Strong communication skills and a friendly demeanor.
  • Commitment to regular attendance and teamwork.
  • Needs to be able to stand for extended periods of time and lift or move up to approximately 25 pounds.
