Job Description Summary

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Production Supervisor is responsible for the manufacturing of finished products while respecting all legal, union and customer requirements. This position ultimately oversees 30+ employees, works a 9am–6pm schedule supporting 1st and 2nd shift, and may work 3–5 Saturdays a year.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Lead and direct work crews to safely and effectively produce a quality product.
  • Coordinate with crews to anticipate production line needs and conduct status checks for safety, quality, productivity, mechanical issues, training, and employee matters.
  • Monitor production levels against the shift schedule while maintaining customer and consumer quality standards.
  • Ensure products meet quality standards, including knowledge of batch formulas, packing and labeling for multiple package types.
  • Maintain daily checklists for line workers covering safety, quality, machinery and production levels, and retain daily production records for each operation.
  • Drive and participate in continuous improvement activities (PCS).
  • Obtain defined production KPIs and daily production goals.
  • Handle employee matters—scheduling, daily work assignments, accurate time and attendance and vacation approvals, employee relations, coaching, training, and job evaluations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Safety, Environmental and Quality
  • Follow all safety rules and procedures, working safely and ensuring the safety of others.
  • Follow all environmental protocols applicable to the job.
  • Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices as defined in the policy.
  • Follow all food safety procedures.
  • Maintain a sanitary and safe work area and perform housekeeping duties as needed.
  • Detect and report hazardous conditions and correct them appropriately.
Knowledge And Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Industrial Management, or related field with at least 1 year of production supervision preferred.
  • Alternatively, a minimum of 3 years of production supervision and/or manufacturing lead experience if no bachelor’s degree.
  • High School diploma required.
  • Supervisory experience in dairy processing and/or food manufacturing preferred.
  • Intermediate computer skills, with MS Office experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement experience (optimizing production, reducing downtime and waste) preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a coaching mindset.
  • Spanish language ability preferred.

Working Conditions

Work is largely performed in a manufacturing environment during regular plant business hours with at least 40 hours a week and may include various shifts. Hours may vary due to special projects, deadlines, and other concerns. Reasonable accommodations may be made for disabilities.
