Job Description

Primary

Purpose:

Support the instructional needs of English‑language learners in an inclusive monolingual or bilingual dual‑immersion setting. Assist with LISAC responsibilities for Bilingual and ESL program compliance in grades Pre‑K‑12, as assigned.

Key tasks include language testing of ELL students, preparation of LPAC meetings, record keeping, data entry into web‑based student systems (ELLEVATION/FOCUS/PEIMS), monitoring failure reports and intervention procedures, maintaining instructional support materials, and reporting findings to the Bilingual/ESL Department.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two (2) years of study in an accredited institution of higher education preferred
  • Valid Texas Paraprofessional educational certificate preferred
  • Fluent in both English and Spanish
Experience
  • Two years of experience working with children in an educational environment preferred.
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Ability to work well with children

  • Ability to relate well with school personnel, parents, and the community
  • Ability to keep well‑organized reliable records
  • Proficient in computer skills; MS Word, Excel, and e‑mail
Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instructional Support

  • Support classroom instruction and provide student intervention for ELLs as needed.
  • Ensure accuracy, completion, timely submission, and filing of all English Language Proficiency documents.
  • Prepare and maintain all necessary reports and documents for LPAC meetings.
  • Follow LPAC manual processes for identification, placement, reclassification, and review of Bilingual/ESL students in PEIMS and district timelines.
  • Compile data to prepare required LPAC forms, including state and local assessment data and teacher recommendations.
  • Collaborate with the PEIMS clerk to assure accurate coding of Bilingual/ESL students.
  • Meet with LPAC Administrator and members regularly, presenting complete LPAC forms for review and decision.
  • Record data on LPAC forms to determine student outcomes and maintain correct coding for PEIMS and student information systems.
  • Use the district LPAC data system to track student progress and generate reports for decision‑making.
  • Administer the state‑determined language test in English and Spanish for identification purposes.
  • Administer the norm‑referenced test used for reclassification of students in grades 1 and 2 when needed.
  • Maintain close contact with Bilingual/ESL teachers and provide them with all LPAC and assessment information of ELLs.
  • Coordinate with Campus LPAC Administrator, Testing Coordinator, and the Bilingual/ESL Department to ensure accurate student data for all decision‑making processes.
  • Collaborate with campus administration to ensure ELL students are administered TELPAS and STAAR designations per state requirements.
  • Complete LLL Student Follow‑Up Forms and report former ELL student progress to LPAC members.
  • Monitor ELLs 6/9‑week grading period failure reports.
  • Ensure LPAC meetings address ELL students’ failure and intervention plans.
  • Maintain ELL student cumulative folders, including monitoring of compliance documents.
  • Participate in monthly meetings, staff development, and special events as directed by district administrators for ELLs.
  • Coordinate with campus LPAC Administrator the scheduling of initial, assessment, annual review, and failure LPAC meetings.
  • Act as a liaison between the school and parents of ELL students.

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined by the Texas Education Agency Code of Ethics for Educators.
  • Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, state and local board policy.
  • Perform other LPAC and Bilingual/ESL Department duties as assigned.
  • All duties performed on site.
