JOB SUMMARY

Under direct supervision of the Stormwater Crew Leader, the purpose of the position is to assist with manual drainage maintenance work for the town. Employees exercise appropriate safety precautions in operating assigned equipment to ensure personal, public, and personnel safety. Position is responsible working independently or as part of a work crew, depending on nature of assigned tasks to clean, construct, repair and maintain the Town’s curbs, gutters, inlets, outfalls, debris-separators, stormwater, manholes, ditches, drainage systems, and other related public infrastructure.

Position requires Essential employee to perform emergency and on-call duty. The employee performs related work as directed and provides assistance to the Street and Solid Waste Division as directed. EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Six (6) months of previous experience that demonstrates ability to fulfill the physical requirements of the essential functions; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and community.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Ability to establish and meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with supervisors and other personnel.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to perform duties in a team environment.

  • Must possess strong organizational skills and be entrepreneurial, energetic, and imaginative.
  • Good verbal and written communications skills are essential.
  • Skilled in the use of a variety of machines, including, but not limited to, power tools, basic lawn care power tools, chainsaws, radio, laptop computers, telephone, calculators, copiers and smart phones.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished by management in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must have the ability to comprehend policies, procedures, regulations, organizational structures, etc. verbally, written in a short timeframe.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to operate various machines, drive vehicles and/or equipment; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear.

    The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to (80) eighty pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Outdoor environment; exposure to conditions of construction and Public Works project sites including loud noises, dust, heavy vehicles and equipment; exposure to inclement weather; exposure to traffic and other hazards while conducting field inspections; exposure to moving vehicles and equipment, slippery surfaces, and other related conditions.
