Position: Deaf and Hard of Hearing Full Time Teacher/Itinerant

Position Summary

Salary: $46,596 - $87,086 (dependent upon education, experience, and negotiated contract)

Essential Functions
  • Plans and carries out in‑services to meet staff development needs in the area of special education due process, laws, rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Interprets state and federal special education laws and provides guidance, training and recommendations to ensure compliance.
  • Plans and carries out due process meetings with district staff on a regular basis.
  • Attends administrative meetings to share due process information as requested.
  • Attends IEP meetings as requested.
  • Provides good public relations and customer service with member districts, staff, parents and the general public.
  • Follows all policies and regulations.
  • Ensures regular and prompt attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Able to drive to member districts.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of a special education teacher.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of special education laws, rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of SPED forms.
  • Ability to demonstrate confidentiality.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with students, parents, staff, admin, and agencies.
  • Ability to handle a variety of assignments or problems independently.
  • Ability to apply a variety of procedures and policies.
  • Ability to collect, read, summarize, compare, and apply data.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with students, parents, staff, admin and agencies.
  • Ability to present to small and large groups.
Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree and considerable experience in a related field or equivalent combination of education, training and experience;
Master's degree preferred.

Licenses, Certificates and Registrations
  • Minnesota Licensure in Special Education from PELSB for DHH.
  • Valid Driver's license.
Supervision

Work is performed under the supervision of the Assistant Director, supported by the Executive Director. No supervisory responsibilities.

Working Conditions
  • Supports all five member districts and the IV Mid‑State programs.
  • Travel required (no vehicle provided, mileage paid).
  • Work may require long hours: early morning and evening shifts.
  • Work is during the traditional school year and may include long days during summer.
  • Work is light: up to 25 pounds occasionally to lift, push/pull or otherwise move.
  • Hearing required to perceive information through normal spoken word.
  • Vocal communication required for expressing or exchanging ideas.
  • Visual acuity required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data.
  • Work subject to potential exposure to blood borne pathogens.
