We’re looking for a Staff Accountant to provide the Company’s business leaders with pro‑active financial and operational information and analysis to support decision‑making and continuous improvement. This person will be expected to execute month‑end close journal entries and reconciliations, sales and use tax transaction review and filings, manage inventory and related entries, and maintain effective internal controls. They must have outstanding communication and interpersonal skills and be comfortable interacting at all levels of management.
What You’ll Do:- Prepare and file sales/use tax returns for a variety of states
- Prepare and file state tax registrations
- Support new state account setup for Secretary of State and Sales and Use Tax, working with HR and Legal and third party providers
- Respond to and promptly resolve state sales tax notices
- Maintain updated tax return filing calendars
- Complete annual 1099 tax return filings, specific state property tax and commercial activity filings, annual net profit returns and occupational tax returns
- Manage inventory accounting, including reconciliations and variance analysis, cost of goods sold analysis, inventory reserves and counts
- Month‑End journal entries and reconciliations related to job costing, intercompany allocations, leases, internal commissions, and incentive units
- Month‑End journal entries for our Canadian entity
- Manage and support local licensing and insurance for specific job requirements and related filings
- Support finance team related to fixed assets, prepaids, commissions, insurance, bonding, including board reporting
- Maintain and improve internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records
- Keep abreast of technology and identify tools that can help streamline workflow
- Support annual external audit and tax return preparation
- Provide support to the finance team as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
- 2+ years’ experience in finance and business industry
- Experience in a services business preferred
- Knowledge of GAAP and financial processes
- Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with a strong customer focus and the ability to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences
- Excellent organizational, time management, leadership, and decision‑making skills, demonstrating a capacity for managing multiple priorities and driving project success
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited institution
- Ability to travel up to 25% throughout the continental USA, reflecting flexibility and commitment to project needs.
- Ability to pass a stringent drug screening and background check, ensuring compliance with organizational standards and policies.
- Hold a valid and current driver’s license.
- Experience managing business insurance, bonds, or external financial platforms
- Exposure to project‑based accounting or energy‑sector financial operations
