Job Summary
Responsible for accurately scheduling complex diagnostic and/or surgical procedures. Conducts physician office/patient interviews, explains hospital procedure guidelines and policies, and coordinates with clinical departments on schedule modifications.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Obtain complete and accurate clinical, demographic, and financial information during the scheduling process; enter data in the scheduling system or related applications.
- Provide customers with preparation instructions and other appointment information; largely responsible for scheduling complex procedures.
- Follow guidelines for special requests, stat, and schedule modification procedures and coordinate communications with clinical areas to accommodate customer requests.
- Answer telephone calls according to designated scripting for the scheduling process, maintaining positive customer service at all times and referring unresolved issues to the appropriate supervisor.
- Notify customers of physician orders, pre‑authorization, and other financial clearance requirements.
- Perform functions of other PASU functions or registration as requested.
- Minimum typing skills of 35 words per minute.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of software, system, and equipment.
- Knowledge of hospital functions and relationships (preferred).
- Advanced customer service skills and experience.
- Ability to work in a call‑center environment.
- Ability to receive and express detailed information orally and in writing.
- Completed course in medical terminology (required).
- Advanced understanding of surgery procedure scheduling (preferred).
- High achievement in productivity.
- Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with internal and external clients, enhancing communication and productivity.
- Identifies opportunities to improve patient relations and shorten scheduling timelines.
- High‑level problem‑solving and analytical skills, technical accuracy, excellent communication, and strong ethical standards.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 2–5 years of administrative experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or related area.
- 3+ years in patient access/scheduling (preferred).
- Some college coursework (preferred).
- Must be able to sit at a computer terminal for extended periods.
- Occasionally lift or carry items weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Frequent prolonged standing, sitting, and walking.
- Hospital administration setting.
- May work in patient care locations with exposure to life‑threatening conditions.
- Must be available to work hours and days as needed based on departmental/system demands.
- Resolve physician office and patient issues; may experience extreme patient volumes and uncooperative patients.
- Pay: $17.20 – $25.70 per hour.
- Shift differentials of $1.00–$2.50 per hour may be available depending on the shift worked.
- Conifer observed holidays receive time and a half.
