Arkansas Talent Group is working with a mid-sized construction client who is growing and looking for an experienced Controller with experience in the service, construction, or related industry.
The Controller will oversee all daily accounting functions, including job costing, billing, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and monthly reporting. This role requires knowledge of construction accounting and the ability to manage both strategic financial planning and day-to-day transaction processing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage full-cycle accounting, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and monthly closings.
- Oversee construction job costing, project budgets, and cost tracking to ensure accuracy and profitability.
- Prepare and review progress billings, lien waivers, and subcontractor payments.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts monthly.
- Develop and maintain financial reports for ownership, including budgets, forecasts, and project-specific analysis.
- Coordinate with project managers to review project financial performance and job cost allocations.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements.
- Support year-end review or audit preparation with an outside CPA firm.
Qualifications:
- Experience in construction or similar industry required.
- Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2–3 in construction or job-costing environments preferred.
- Strong knowledge of construction billing practices, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Quick Books, Sage 100 Contractor, or similar).
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a small business setting where multi-tasking and initiative are valued.
