Job DescriptionJOB GOAL :
The bookkeeper’s primary responsibility is to provide and maintain a system of financial accountability for all finances generated and dispersed by the school. Additionally, the bookkeeper will catalog and maintain an accurate inventory of all furniture and equipment acquisitions by the school. The bookkeeper is accountable for all matters related to finance and the acquisition of resources needed by the entire staff in the performance of their duties.
The bookkeeper must prepare, maintain, and submit all forms and reports in a neat, accurate, and timely manner as required by the principal.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve (12) month contract – Pay 703 – Range 06, plus benefits package. (Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based upon experience.)
FLSA: Non‑Exempt.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of an Associate Degree required. Additional post‑secondary education and/or training is preferred.
- Two (2) years of successful experience in the bookkeeping field or an associate’s degree or higher in a business/accounting area.
- Experience in computer operations, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office products required. Working knowledge of Efinance Plus and/or other accounting software preferred.
- Evidence of strong interpersonal skills with District employees and the public to promote a positive image of the school district.
- Proficient in use of desk calculator.
- Ability to produce routine reports and correspondence as needed, including monthly financial reports.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to pass a bookkeeper’s skills test.
Such alternatives and additions to the above qualifications may be deemed appropriate by the Superintendent as requested by the Board.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide leadership in establishing and maintaining financial accounting procedures that ensure accountability for the school.
- Assist the Principal in maintaining the school budget and acquiring needed supplies and materials for the entire staff.
- Assume responsibility for the receipts and expenditures of all school funds, e.g., operating, activity, petty cash.
- Maintain postage meter and order postage when necessary.
- Monitor, report, and advise the Principal on all transactions related to budget code and activity sections, ensuring proper utilization and accounting of finances.
- Monitor the accountability system for all funds generated by the school’s fundraising activities and prepare final accounting reports for these activities.
- Manage the school bookstore.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Working Conditions:
The employee regularly sits, stands, walks, goes up and down stairs, operates foot and hand controls, uses a telephone, and writes. Occasionally must lift and/or move up to twenty (20) or more pounds. Requires accurate perception of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling educational materials, and providing oral information. Must be physically present for the duration of the daily contracted time period with only infrequent unexcused absences.
