Sr. Associate Chair for the Department of Anesthesiology

The Sr. Associate Chair for the Department of Anesthesiology is the administrative and financial authority in the department and reports jointly to the Chairperson and to the COM Associate Dean for Finance. The Sr. Associate Chair directs human resources, finance and budgeting, strategic planning, and department operations, as well as acting as a representative of both the Department and College, both within and outside UAMS.

In helping to fulfill the mission of UAMS, the Sr. Associate Chair has administrative authority over the Department's research, educational, and service operations and activities. Uses judgment and experience to apply an advanced knowledge, skills, methods, and practices, conducts analysis and problem-solving to plan and prioritize a varied workload that involves developing solutions to emergent issues, time-sensitive and/or confidential projects, and complex problems.

In clinical departments, the Sr. Associate Chair may collaborate with one or more Service Line Administrators to facilitate strategic initiatives, faculty recruiting/on-boarding, scheduling, effort allocation, assignments, and budget and financial analysis.

Department: COM | Anesthesiology

Summary of

Job Duties:

  • Provide executive leadership for the department's administrative, financial, and operational functions.
  • Develop and oversee departmental budgets, financial planning, forecasting, and resource allocation.
  • Lead strategic planning initiatives that support the department's clinical, educational, research, and service missions.
  • Direct human resources activities, including workforce planning, faculty and staff recruitment, onboarding, and organizational development.
  • Ensure compliance with university, College of Medicine, and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Analyze operational and financial performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement effective solutions.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to departmental leadership on financial, operational, and organizational matters.
  • Collaborate with Service Line Administrators and institutional partners to support faculty scheduling, effort allocation, recruitment, budgeting, and operational initiatives.
  • Lead complex, confidential, and time-sensitive projects while managing competing priorities and organizational objectives.
  • Represent the Department and College of Medicine in internal committees and external collaborations as appropriate.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and exceptional customer service.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field plus ten (10) years of progressively responsible administrative, finance, or budget experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's or terminal degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Finance, Accounting, Law, or a related field plus eight (8) years of progressively responsible administrative, finance, or budget experience.

Salary Information:
Commensurate with education and experience.
