Field Safety Director provides strategic safety leadership and operational oversight for multiple steel erection and construction projects across assigned regions. This position is responsible for developing and implementing project-specific safety strategies, ensuring compliance with company standards, customer requirements, and regulatory obligations, and supporting the successful execution of projects from pre-bid planning through project completion.

The Field Safety Director partners closely with Operations, Project Management, Estimating, Business Development, and Customers to identify project risks, establish site-specific safety plans, manage subcontractor safety performance, and ensure safety requirements are integrated into all phases of project execution. This role serves as the primary safety leader for assigned field projects and is responsible for promoting a culture that proactively identifies hazards, manages risk, and protects employees, subcontractors, customers, and company assets.

Duties And Responsibilities Safety Program Development and Project Planning
  • Develop, implement, and oversee project-specific safety plans for multiple steel erection and construction projects.
  • Ensure safety programs align with Lexicon standards, customer requirements, contractual obligations, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Participate in project startup planning, constructability reviews, risk assessments, and mobilization activities to identify and mitigate safety risks before work begins.
  • Review customer safety requirements and integrate applicable standards into project execution plans.
  • Coordinate safety requirements, orientations, and compliance expectations for project teams and subcontractors.
Business Development, Bids, and Proposals
  • Support estimating and business development teams during project pursuits, bids, and proposals.
  • Review bid packages, customer safety specifications, and contract requirements to identify safety-related risks, costs, staffing requirements, and compliance obligations.
  • Assist with the development of project-specific safety approaches and resources that support competitive and successful project proposals.
  • Participate in customer presentations, pre-award meetings, and safety discussions as needed.
Site Qualification and Customer Compliance
  • Conduct safety evaluations and prequalification reviews for new projects, customers, and work locations.
  • Review customer prequalification requirements and coordinate submission of safety performance information and documentation.
  • Ensure project-specific safety documentation, permits, plans, and procedures are developed and maintained prior to project startup.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with customer safety representatives and project stakeholders.
Subcontractor Safety Management
  • Lead subcontractor safety oversight across assigned projects.
  • Participate in subcontractor prequalification, selection, onboarding, and performance evaluations.
  • Ensure subcontractors comply with company policies, customer expectations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and performance reviews to verify compliance and drive continuous improvement.
  • Partner with project leadership to address deficiencies and implement corrective actions.
Training and Education
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs for project personnel, supervisors, and management.
