Summary of
Job Duties:
The Windgate Artist in Residence will work in the Windgate Center of Art + Design at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock for the spring 2027 semester. This residency offers the Windgate Artist in Residence the opportunity to make work and to engage with the community of the UA Little Rock School of Art and Design. While in residence, the artist is expected to make work in the provided studio space and/or the shared studio spaces of the building.
In addition, artists will interact with students through weekly open studio hours, studio visits to student work spaces, in-class activities hosted by program faculty, and welcome and farewell community receptions. Participating artists will also donate one work of art to the UA Little Rock Art Collection. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.
Qualifications:
Required Education and/or
Experience:
* High School Diploma
Preferred Education and/or
Experience:
* MFA, BFA, BA, or commensurate experience;
* Evidence of active participation in exhibitions at the national or international level;
* Teaching and/or mentorship of students at any level.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
* Being present for the duration of the residency (Jan 15 - May 15, 2027);
* Making artwork in the Windgate Center of Art + Design M-F (daily);
* Maintaining open studio hours (weekly);
* Giving a public artist's talk (one time);
* Critiquing students;
* Participating as a guest artist in relevant classes (1-2 times): examples include giving a talk, participating in critiques, or leading an in-class activity;
* Attending welcome and farewell receptions;
* Providing a work to the UA Little Rock Art Collection;
* Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Knowledge of artistic processes and media;
* Knowledge of studio safety procedures;
* Strong interpersonal skills;
* Ability to teach;
* Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate;
* Willingness to engage in collaboration with faculty as a guest artist in their classes;
* Willingness to engage with students and the broader community.
