Summary of
Job Duties:
The Assistant Professor of Voice will teach applied voice and specialized undergraduate content that contributes to the Bachelors of Applied Music and the Bachelors of Music Education, such as Diction and Voice Pedagogy. In addition to maintaining an active voice studio, the Assistant Professor of Voice will work with the School of Literary and Performing Arts administration to coordinate all voice studios and to advise applied voice students.
This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.
Qualifications:
Required Education and/or
Experience:
* MFA, MM, DMA, PhD or other terminal degree in music or a related field.
* Experience teaching at the university level
Preferred Education and/or
Experience:
* Experience teaching singing in a diverse repertoire;
* Experience teaching singing in styles common in contemporary musical theatre;
* Experience advising students in college curriculum.
Job Duties and/or Responsibilities:
* Teach private studio voice lessons;
* Teach Diction and Vocal Pedagogy;
* Teach other courses for the music program as assigned;
* Advise voice students in the Bachelors of Applied Music;
* Collaborate with Literary and Performing Arts faculty and staff on joint productions;
* Work positively with faculty, staff, students, and the community;
* Maintain active membership in professional music organizations;
* Contribute to the discipline through guest clinics, workshops, concerts, publications, presentations, or other scholarly or creative efforts;;
* Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Ability to maintain a high-quality voice studio through recruiting, engaged teaching, and local, regional, and national performance activities;
* Ability to support learning of both classical and non-classical literature in service of student learning goals;
* Ability to teach bel canto alongside modern vocal pedagogy;
* Ability to work with a diverse group of students, with varying levels of expertise and formal musical education;
* Knowledge of current trends in musical theatre and musical theatre-adjacent performance styles, techniques, and performance practices;
* Knowledge of contemporary trends in music curriculum;
* Excellent organizational and collaborative skills;
* Demonstrated strong English verbal and written communication skills;
* Self-motivated, responsible, and able to work with minimal direct supervision;
* Computer literacy;
* Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, collaboration, and collegiality;
* Ability to recruit for the Music program and build student initiatives.
