Job Duties:


The Biology Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in biology to students at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. The role involves preparing and delivering engaging lessons in biology, assessing student performance, fostering a dynamic learning environment, and contributing to curriculum development. This position may also involve laboratory instruction, research opportunities, academic advising, and other duties as assigned by the department or institution.

This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Qualifications:

Required Education and/or

Experience:

  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Biology or closely related field (for higher-level positions); degree must be conferred before hire;

  • Strong knowledge of biological principles, with a commitment to keeping up with advancements in the field.

Preferred Education and/or

Experience:

  • Previous teaching experience at the secondary or postsecondary level;

  • Experience with laboratory instruction;

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Teaching and Instruction

  • Prepare and deliver lectures, lessons, and laboratory exercises on various biology topics (e.g., cell biology, genetics, ecology, microbiology, human biology, etc.);

  • Develop and implement course syllabi, assignments, and assessments;

  • Foster an inclusive and supportive classroom environment, encouraging student engagement and participation;

  • Provide individualized attention to students who require additional academic support.

Student Assessment

  • Create and grade quizzes, exams, lab reports, and other assignments;

  • Provide timely and constructive feedback on student work to encourage academic growth;

  • Monitor and report on student progress, offering assistance as needed.

Laboratory Instruction (if applicable)

  • Oversee laboratory sessions, ensuring safety and proper procedure;

  • Demonstrate and guide students through hands‑on experiments and activities;

  • Ensure lab equipment and materials are prepared and maintained.
