Job DescriptionJob Goal:
To develop, instruct, and collect data on students in the areas of education, behavior, and social skills to reintegrate them into a public‑school campus.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This position is a Nine and one‑fourth (9.25) month contract (190 days), plus a benefits package. Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based on experience and LRSD’s salary placement guidelines. FLSA: EXEMPT.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree.
- Current Arkansas certification in Special Education Instructional Specialist at the appropriate grade level.
- Experience in implementing non‑aversive behavioral programs and social skills training.
- Evidence of strong writing and organizational skills.
- Evidence of the ability to develop, supervise, and implement Individual Education Plans.
- Effective and professional communication.
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of all personnel within this position.
- Provides direct instruction to students identified as having Autism Spectrum Disorders.
- Implement state‑of‑the‑art research‑based strategies to work effectively with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
- Plans and delivers instruction that is aligned with students’ individualized education plan goals and Little Rock School District curriculum maps.
- Implements individual educational goals and objectives.
- Collects and analyzes student data and monitors student progress.
- Creates and coordinates student schedules with related services and general education.
- Advises parents and/or legal guardians on student progress for the purpose of supporting the teacher’s expectations, developing methods for improvement, and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
- Assesses students’ social needs (e.g., behavioral, motor, development, communication, etc.), academic needs, progress, expectations, goals, etc. (e.g., developmental level, vocational abilities, etc.) for the purpose of evaluating students and family requirements, placement and success of the program.
- Collaborates with school personnel, parents and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes.
- Participates in staff development that fosters professional growth and enhances instructional skills.
- Participates in students’ staffing throughout the year.
- Must have no physical limitations. Candidate must be able to lift.
- He/She must be able to participate in the Safety-Care Behavioral Safety Training.
- Performs other duties the principal/supervisor may assign.

Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, go up and down stairs, operate foot and hand controls, use a telephone and write. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to twenty (20) or more pounds. This position requires accurate perception of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling and working with educational materials and/or objects, and providing oral information.
Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period, and to be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent unexcused absences, during the contract year. Additional technical skills, knowledge, and abilities may be recommended by the immediate supervisor and approved by the Human Resources Director.
