Job Description

Job Goal
:
To aid and support the assigned teacher and other certified personnel in implementing the instructional program and support services.

Terms of Employment
:
Nine and one‑fourth (9.25) month (184 days) contract, Range 802 Grade, plus benefits package. Non‑Exempt FLSA.

Qualifications
  • Completion of 60 semester credit hours at a regionally accredited institution or Associate Degree, or passed the Para Pro Praxis Exam (457 or above).
  • Current Child Development Associate (CDA) Certificate, Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Early Childhood Development (or a similar area focused on early childhood), or Bachelor’s degree.
  • If the candidate does not possess full qualifications, agreement to complete qualifications through an approved Staff Qualification Plan (SQP) from ABC within the prescribed timeframe.
  • Passing of required background checks including child maltreatment and state/federal checks.
  • Kind, nurturing, and responsive to children; collaboration with teachers and other adults.
  • Ability to access and respond to emails regularly, read and comprehend simple instructions and short correspondence or memos, and respond accordingly.
  • Ability to sit on the floor and interact with students at their level and work outdoors with students during gross‑motor development activities.
  • Willingness to comply with DHS requirements (including ABC or other agency).
  • Willingness to complete required ABC trainings and participate in ongoing staff development (30 hours annually).
  • Cooperation with other adults and children.
  • Professionalism (punctuality, confidentiality, competence for assigned responsibilities).
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Guides children in working and playing harmoniously with each other.
  • Interacts positively with children.
  • Provides a nurturing environment for students.
  • Assists in the preparation of lesson and instructional materials and learns the curriculum content.
  • Promotes oral language development through meaningful conversations with students.
  • Assists individual children in need of special attention.
  • Implements appropriate and positive behavior management techniques.
  • Reinforces research‑based instructional activities with students as directed.
  • Under supervision of licensed teacher, prepares for classroom activities.
  • Guides independent activities set up by the teacher.
  • Assists the teacher with non‑instructional classroom duties such as breakfast/snack, restroom, clothing needs, and classroom maintenance.
  • Participates in daily outdoor play including interactions and guiding student learning.
  • Attends required ABC trainings and earns no less than 30 hours of professional development in Early Childhood topics annually.
  • Maintains compliance with regulations for DHS and ABC.
  • Models a high level of energy and enthusiasm.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements
:
Regular standing, walking, and occasional lifting of 20 or more pounds. Requires accurate perception of sound, vision, depth perception, and handling of educational materials. Must be physically present during the contracted work period with minimal unexcused absences.
