Jag Specialist

It is the responsibility of the JAG Specialist to provide relevant and challenging classroom and work based learning experiences for the JAG students. The JAG Specialist should be committed to developing students' personal, leadership, and employability skills to ensure graduation from high school and positive post-graduate outcomes. The ultimate outcome of the JAG Program is to place graduates in quality jobs (after graduation) which lead to a career in their chosen field or to guide the graduate toward a postsecondary education that fits his/her career goal.

After placement, the JAG Specialist will be responsible for no less than monthly contacts with graduates (and non-graduates) and no less than six employer follow-up contacts over the 12-month follow-up period. The ideal JAG Specialist will provide assistance to the non-graduate to complete high school graduation requirements or a high school equivalency diploma (GED) and will provide graduates with employment, retention, and advancement assistance during the 12-month follow-up phase.

Ten and one-fourth (10) month contract (205 days), plus benefit package.

NOTE:

Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based upon education and experience. FLSA: EXEMPT

Qualifications:

  • Must have an Arkansas Teacher's license in a career service special population.
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to quality integrated education.
  • Successful experience in working with disadvantages and handicapped students.
  • Experience in job placement and on job supervision of students is desirable.
  • Evidence of strong organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Evidence of strong oral and written communication skills.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of all personnel within this position.

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the location and at the times designated.
  • Conducts a high school level cooperative vocational educational program for handicapped and academically disadvantages students.
  • Instructs related classes in school covering topics related to life skills, job finding and holding skills, attitude development, and other work related topics identified by National JAG curriculum design and cooperating employers.
  • Works with area employers in placing enrolled students in jobs which are suitable, cooperating, training sites.
  • Develops training plans, in conjunction with employers, for students enrolled in the cooperative program which outlines skills to be taught in school and those to be learned through on-the-job-training.
  • Assists career and technical students in being able to successfully graduate from high school and prepares them for immediate success to enter the job market, military service or postsecondary training/education.
  • Travels to cooperating employer training sites to check on student progress and determine areas in which additional assistance or instruction will be of value.
  • Maintains accurate records on the program and students, prepares and submits required reports and/or data in a timely manner.
  • Assumes responsibility of continued personal and professional growth by keeping abreast of current research findings and professional literature; utilizes improved techniques in area of specialization and participates in appropriate professional meetings.
  • Prepares lesson plans and instructional materials. Shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Strives to implement, by instruction and action, the District's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
