Visiting Instructor, Construction Management & Civil/Construction Engineering

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UA Little Rock) invites applications for a Visiting Instructor, half-time, non-tenure-track position in the Department of Construction Management & Civil/Construction Engineering. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the academic excellence and growth of the department, providing leadership in research, teaching, and service. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in innovative teaching, lead scholarly research, collaborate with industry professionals, and contribute to the development of the department and the university.
This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Required Education and/or
Experience:
- Masters in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a closely related field;
- 5 years of industry experience in construction management, civil engineering, or related sectors;
- Ability to obtain Certified Professional Constructor (CPC) credential or Professional licensure in engineering (PE, PMP, or equivalent) is desirable;
- A strong record of academic teaching experience at the university level;
- Expertise in one or more areas of construction management or civil engineering, such as project management, construction technology, sustainable construction, structural engineering, or infrastructure management;
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and industry professionals.
Preferred Education and/or
Experience:
- Doctorate in Construction Management or related field or Juris Doctorate;
- More than 5 years of industry experience in construction management, civil engineering, or related sectors;
- Experience with online or hybrid course delivery methods.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver high-quality undergraduate courses in construction management, civil engineering, and construction engineering;
- Mentor and advise undergraduate students, guiding them in their academic and professional development;
- Foster an engaging learning environment through innovative teaching methods and the integration of industry practices into the curriculum;
- Develop and continuously improve course materials, assessments, and teaching strategies.
- Conduct original, impactful research in construction management, civil engineering, or related fields, leading to publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings;
- Collaborate with faculty, students, and industry professionals on interdisciplinary research projects that address current challenges in the construction and engineering sectors.
- Participate in departmental, college, and university committees and initiatives to promote the growth and development of the department and the university;
- Contribute to professional organizations, such as ASCE, AGC, NAHB, or other relevant associations, through conference participation, publications, or leadership roles;
- Support student and alumni engagement efforts and foster relationships with industry stakeholders, local government, and professional organizations.
- Provide academic leadership within the department, contributing to curriculum development, program assessment, and accreditation processes;
- Assist in recruitment and retention efforts for students and faculty within the department;
- Mentor junior faculty members, fostering their professional development and growth within the academic community.
- Excellent communication skills;
- Ability to provide effective mentorship.
Salary Information: $36,000
