CompensationCompensation Information – The salary ranges represent our good faith estimate for the role at this time. We consider factors such as qualifications, skills, experience, and geographic location during the hiring process.
- Operator II – Pay Range: $70,320 - $87,890
- Operator III – Pay Range: $87,950 - $112,190
- Sr. Operator – Pay Range: $97,580 - $126,790
Relocation bonus (if applicable). Hybrid work environment for eligible positions. Retirement contributions include a 401(k) with employer match and a fully funded defined benefit pension.
What You’ll Do /Key Responsibilities
On a continuous around-the-clock basis, the Operator is responsible for the following:
- Support and run RTBM, Balancing or Reliability desk functions using available tools.
- Understand the interactions between Reliability, Balancing, and RTBM functions.
- Monitor and maintain SPP Area Control Error (ACE) and Current Operating Plan (COP).
- Verify inputs for RTBM, RUC, and Reliability Congestion studies for completeness and accuracy.
- Run RTBM, Reliability Unit Commitment (RUC), and Reliability Congestion Management studies within required parameters and timeframe.
- Review study results for completeness and accuracy.
- Collaborate and communicate as needed; assist management with special assignments or requests.
- Test existing and new RTBM, RUC, Balancing, or Reliability functionality as needed.
- Learn tariff and market rules as appropriate; provide recommendations for process improvements.
What We’re Looking For:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Operator II:
One (1) year experience as OPER I or equivalent - Operator III:
Three (3) years combined experience as OPER I or II or equivalent - Sr. Operator:
Eight (8) years combined experience as OPER I, II, III or equivalent - Ability to work a rotating shift schedule
- Strong communication and decision-making skills; ability to work with limited supervision
- Mentor to younger operators; ability to work with diverse teams
- Understanding of SPP Policies and Procedures; understanding of NERC Policies
Professional Certification Requirements:
- NERC Reliability Coordinator Certification, or ability to obtain within three months of employment
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (e.g., electrical engineering)
- Knowledge of SPP Criteria, SPP OATT, Market Protocols, NERC Operating Policies, scheduling practices, and pro forma tariff procedures
This role operates in a professional office environment; standard office equipment is used. Travel is minimal (approximately 5%).
