The Data Center Commissioning Technician supports the commissioning of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems within mission‑critical data center environments. This entry‑level role assists commissioning agents with planning, testing, documentation, and quality assurance to ensure systems are installed correctly and operate as intended. The position is hands‑on and ideal for candidates looking to build a career in data center engineering, reliability, and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in developing commissioning checklists, test scripts, and documentation.
- Support commissioning agents during installation verification, functional testing, and integrated system testing.
- Help coordinate commissioning tasks with contractors, vendors, and project teams.
- Participate in equipment testing for HVAC systems, power distribution, UPS units, generators, and monitoring systems.
- Collect and record test data, equipment readings, and system performance results.
- Help identify issues and work with project teams to track and resolve corrective actions.
- Prepare notes, logs, and supporting documentation for commissioning reports.
- Maintain accurate files of test results, submittals, and project drawings.
- Assist in updating punchlists and verifying the completion of deficiencies.
- Learn and follow commissioning processes, industry standards, and safety procedures.
- Support QA/QC reviews during equipment installation and system startup.
- Help ensure that systems meet design intent and owner requirements.
- Attend design reviews, construction meetings, and vendor demonstrations as a junior team member.
- Assist with training materials and turnover packages for operations teams.
- Participate in on‑site activities, including system walk‑downs and inspections.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
- 0–3 years of experience in data centers, construction, engineering, commissioning, or facility operations preferred.
- Internship or co‑op experience in MEP systems, controls, or technical environments is a plus.
- Basic understanding of electrical and mechanical systems (coursework acceptable).
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn complex systems.
- Ability to read technical diagrams or willingness to learn (training provided).
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work on active construction sites and follow safety protocols.
- FE/EIT, OSHA 10/30, or early‑career commissioning/MEP certifications are beneficial but not required.
- Ability to continuously sit, stand or walk.
- Ability to bend, squat, climb stairs and lift frequently.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally.
- Work is performed on active construction sites and operational data centers.
- May require lifting equipment, navigating mechanical spaces, and working around high‑voltage systems.
- Must adhere to strict safety protocols and PPE requirements.
