Compensation information:
- Senior Engineer Pay Range: $97,580 – $126,795
- Engineer II Pay Range: $88,000 - $99,000

The Engineer is responsible for the development and analysis of intermediate planning studies, coordinating with multiple stakeholders, and collaborating across departments to achieve desired results. Responsibilities include developing study scopes, providing technical oversight of Intermediate Planning processes, documenting outcomes, and coordinating with SPP membership on key issues. A deep understanding of the SPP transmission grid, OATT, and planning processes is required.
The Senior Engineer supports objectives, issues, and new concepts in the Intermediate Planning process, including process improvements and engineering measurements. The position requires effective written and oral communication with staff, stakeholders, and regulators, and may require leadership activities and mentorship of other staff.
Core Responsibilities
- Engineering Concepts and Tools
:
Develop expertise with SPP power system analysis tools and processes; contribute to the development and instruction of transmission planning tools and software (e.g., PROMOD, Powerbase, PAT, PSS/E, VSAT, TARA, Microsoft Office). - Engineering Responsibilities
:
Lead complex technical processes directed by supervision and coordinate with stakeholders; develop and use transmission planning tools; ensure technical content in Intermediate Planning and STEP Reports is accurate; coordinate with Real-Time Operations and stakeholders. - Governing Processes

Understand applicable governing documents and processes required to support assigned needs. - Stakeholder Relationships

Build positive relationships with technical, supervisory, leadership, and management stakeholders; facilitate stakeholder feedback discussions to reach consensus when possible. - Engineering Judgment

Apply appropriate technical decision making; develop basic project management skills; learn from more experienced engineers. - Teamwork and Leadership

Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent, with a calculus-based engineering focus (preferred majors: Electrical, Computer, Industrial, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering).
- Senior Engineer
: 5 years of relevant engineering experience; professional engineer license may satisfy one year of experience. - Engineer II
: 2 years of relevant engineering experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in a related field
- Electric utility industry experience
Other Requirements
- Competent with word processing, spreadsheets, and timekeeping tools
- Intermediate proficiency with SPP power system analysis tools and core processes
- Understanding of SPP Open Access Transmission Tariff, FERC/NERC governing documents, SPP By-Laws, and SPP committee structure
