ZTR is in search of a Field Service Engineer to support our major U.S. customers. This role requires someone who works well independently while remaining a strong collaborator and team player. The successful candidate will serve as ZTR’s on-site technical representative, working closely with customers and internal stakeholders. The position involves hands‑on troubleshooting, system commissioning, customer training, and resolution of complex technical issues.
This role is based in the United States, in East St. Louis, Illinois or North Little Rock, Arkansas
, and reports directly to the Technical Service Manager in London, Ontario, Canada.
Due to the nature of work, the successful candidate will be required to live in close proximity to either Little Rock, AR or East St. Louis, IL
.
- Configure and support ZTR control systems using advanced PLC knowledge
- Perform on-site commissioning and investigative troubleshooting of ZTR equipment
- Provide technical training to customers on-site
- Collaborate with and support the sales team as required
- Participate in project coordination and project management activities as needed
- Travel domestically and internationally (approximately 15%–30%, including travel within the U.S.)
- Minimum 3-year diploma in Electronic Engineering Technology, or Professional Engineer, or
- Strong ability to troubleshoot electrical control systems and locomotive electrical systems
- Advanced PLC programming and configuration skills
- Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus)
- Basic to intermediate understanding of Ethernet networking, including LANs, WANs, VPNs, and Wi‑Fi
- Proficiency with standard computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office)
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently
- Strong judgment and decision-making skills, particularly in high-pressure situations
- Excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills
- Hands‑on technical experience required
- Candidates with locomotive and/or freight railway experience will be given preference
