Overview
Post‑Masters Research Associate – Nuclear Engineering. The role focuses on analyzing the economic, industrial, and geopolitical effects of small modular reactors, and supporting nuclear non‑proliferation policy and research within the Nuclear, Chemical, and Biological Division.
Responsibilities- Work with Project Managers and sponsors as a technical advisor informing policy positions in nuclear diplomacy.
- Provide information on interplay between emerging reactor designs and non‑proliferation policy.
- Identify physical measurement techniques relevant to safeguards applications for nuclear reactors.
- Recommend innovative designs and strategies to meet project goals.
- Author technical white papers, documentation, and journal articles.
- Maintain working relationships with engineers, managers, government sponsors, and external partners.
- Communicate technical topics in writing and orally to audiences with limited technical background.
- Understand strategic implications of new technologies for security strategy and cooperation.
- Occasional travel to project sponsors and international travel for sponsor missions.
- Master’s degree earned within the last 24 months (or scheduled within 8 months).
- Master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Prior experience at a U.S. National Laboratory and/or U.S. Department of State.
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and will undergo a federal background investigation and drug testing in accordance with federal regulations.

Pay RangeMinimum salary: USD $78,500.00 per year. Maximum salary: USD $ per year.
