position summary

Merjent, Inc. (Merjent) is seeking an Environmental Consultant to support energy infrastructure projects in the Little Rock, Arkansas area. In this full-time position, the Environmental Consultant will support environmental permitting and compliance activities, including permit acquisition, pre-permitting field surveys, environmental reviews, and construction and operational compliance fieldwork.

The ideal candidate will have technical knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental permitting regulations and experience supporting energy-related projects. Candidates who are interested in developing their permitting, regulatory, and environmental compliance expertise are also encouraged to apply.

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position based in the Little Rock, Arkansas area. Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to the Little Rock area. Candidates should expect to spend approximately 40–50% of their time in the field, which may include travel to project sites and working outdoors in a variety of conditions.

The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $79,400-$103,000, depending on qualifications and experience. This position is also eligible for a bonus.

responsibilities
  • Manage projects and tasks associated with environmental review, permitting and compliance services for clients in the energy sector (natural gas pipelines and/or electric transmission lines and associated facilities).
  • Support projects that involve analysis of the environmental impacts of proposed energy projects, including analyses to support development of project-specific applications.
  • Conduct environmental field tasks and environmental reporting tasks.
  • Potential to conduct biological/wetland field surveys and/or stormwater inspections and required associated internal and external reporting.
  • Supporting administrative functions as needed, including document production and technical editing of large, detailed documents.
  • Work with internal project and task managers and external clients in a manner that is consistent with Merjent's reputation for excellence.
qualifications and experience
  • B.A. or B.S. in environmental science or environmental studies, environmental engineering, water resources, geology, biology, wetland science, natural resources, or a closely related field.
  • 3-4 years of environmental field work and/or permitting experience, with preference for work completed in the energy industry.
  • 2-3 years of experience or familiarity with permitting processes through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, State Historic Preservation Offices, or other federal, state, or local regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to work independently and conduct field work with minimal supervision.
  • Experience or familiarity with deputy project management and/or project management preferred.
  • Strong initiative-taker with excellent organizational, problem-solving, and task management skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and work well under pressure, both in large teams and one-on-one.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to analyze, organize, and interpret data from multiple sources and translate that information into direct, easy to understand written deliverables.
  • Ability to travel locally and regionally as needed (40–50%), including field work and client support.
