Major Responsibilities And Desired Qualifications
The Credit Officer works with experienced Credit Department staff to gain the knowledge and skills to underwrite credit. Completes credit analysis in conjunction with other staff and prepares recommendations for the approving loan officer or loan committee.
- Develops foundational credit underwriting skills to independently assess basic credits using sound judgment and credit administration practices.
- Gains familiarity with credit processes, procedures, and related technology.
- Learns borrower eligibility and regulatory compliance fundamentals.
- Reviews financials (balance sheets, tax returns, cash flow, credit reports) to:
- Project long-term profitability using historical data and ag trends
- Evaluate financial ratios against Association standards
- Participates in Loan Committee discussions and voting.
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, agricultural economics, accounting, economics, finance, or related field required. Ideal candidates must be highly motivated with strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Other strong skills required are interpersonal relationship skills, analytical skills, and the ability to work individually and as a team player.
