The Credit Analyst provides analytical support for Stone Bank's SBA and USDA government-guaranteed lending programs, performing independent analysis of creditworthiness for a diverse range of customers and prospects. This position minimizes risk to the financial institution through effective credit analysis, underwriting, and loan structuring, and by reviewing and analyzing detailed financial information. The Analyst analyzes current credit data, financial statements, and necessary due diligence data of individuals or companies to determine the degree of risk involved in extending credit or lending money and prepares reports and memos with credit information for use in decision-making by loan committees and concurring approvers.

The Analyst also helps promote stability, long-term profitability, and quality of Stone Bank's loan portfolio through excellent analysis, maintains excellent relationships with Stone Bank personnel (particularly the loan department), and promotes the image and a positive, cooperative, professional culture of Stone Bank wherever possible.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Credit analysis/underwriting experience in SBA and/or USDA government-guaranteed lending (5–10 years preferred).
  • Excellent employee management and mentoring skills, with the ability to train and develop other credit analysts.
  • Sound knowledge of general lending policies and procedures, pertinent banking regulations, and employee development.
  • Excellent understanding of lending products, services, and pricing.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in various stages of the credit decision process.
  • Ability to demonstrate attention to detail, accuracy, planning, and follow-up.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from a wide variety of groups, including clients, customers, bank employees and committees, SBA/USDA staff, and other parties.
  • Ability to maintain focus and concentration in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; MS Office programs; financial spreading software.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepares basic and comprehensive credit analyses on SBA and USDA loans that facilitate the credit approval process for loan officers or committees.
  • Works directly with lenders, borrowers, clients, agents, SBA/USDA staff, and attorneys to analyze/underwrite, process, and assess loan applications.
  • Analyzes financial statements and related material to prepare summaries and present facts concerning creditworthiness.
  • Prepares credit and cash flow analyses — including business, affiliate, personal, and global — and submits credit approval documents, write-ups, and memos to loan committee and to SBA/USDA for decision-making.
  • Manages workload and maintains communication throughout the credit decision process to ensure all requests are handled efficiently and processed in a timely manner.
  • Regularly exercises independent discretion and judgment in the performance of essential job functions.
  • Assists lending personnel and other credit analysts to improve their preparation of credit and opportunity memos prior to submission.
  • Promotes a healthy, high-performance attitude within the Bank and helps develop excellent bankers, supporting the vision of the SBA/USDA departments.
  • Stays abreast of changing economic and industry trends and helps lenders and the underwriting function adapt to them.
  • Ensures all departmental documents and activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, including completion of required compliance training.
  • Maintains knowledge of and adherence to SBA SOP processes and regulations, USDA underwriting requirements, and Stone Bank lending policies and compliance standards.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Specific Goals / Projects
  • Assist in growing the USDA and SBA lending departments at Stone Bank.
  • Work with a sense of urgency on all projects, with punctual attendance and good use of time.
