Overview

The position involves growth of mammalian cells and bacteria, and research to understand host cell responses to bacterial infections using molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, and immunological methods (e.g., western blotting, immunoprecipitation, molecular genetic techniques, DNA and plasmid preparation and transformation).

- Help write scientific manuscripts and grant proposals by supplying information pertaining to experiments and composing initial drafts.
- Read scientific literature to design new experiments.
- Develop new research skills to strengthen independent research ability.
- Organize and oversee daily laboratory operations, including ordering supplies, maintaining inventories, entering data, and performing safety checks.
- Help train graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, technicians, and temporary undergraduate students in the lab.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Master's degree in life sciences with emphasis in microbiology, cell biology, biochemistry, or related field, plus two (2) years of post-doctoral experience required.
- Postdoctoral fellowship experience preferred.
- Laboratory training including cloning, PCR/RT-PCR, western blot, and aseptic mammalian cell culture handling.
- Techniques in molecular biology, cell biology, and immunology.
- Good communication skills and ability to work with others.
- Experience presenting scientific findings at conferences.
- Experience writing scientific manuscripts and grant proposals.
- Can stand near the bench; handle fragile apparatus; frequently move between labs.
- Capable of lifting up to 10 lbs.
