job summarythe database analyst is a mid-level position responsible for analyzing, designing, and supporting the state’s database systems. The database analyst works closely with database administrators and application development teams to ensure that the database structures meet the functional and performance requirements of various state agencies. This role involves a balance of technical skills and business analysis to help guide the design and optimization of databases used for state operations.
- provides technical assistance to end-users to research and resolve reported end-user technical issues with the student administrative software, reports and state reporting.
- creates and updates training and procedural documentation to support end-users and staff.
- notifies vendors and other support entities of software problems and changes and generates special reports as required.
- provides training and support for school districts under intensive support.
- assists apscn staff and end-users by interpreting and troubleshooting software issues related to student administrative systems and state reporting applications.
- performs software testing and prepares test data analyzes for the system applications.
- acts as back-up for sms help desk and field analysts as needed.
- acts as unit mentor for new staff.
- performs other duties as assigned. In-state travel required.
analyze and evaluate database requirements for various state agencies and develop strategies to improve database functionality and performance. Assist in the design and implementation of database structures to support state applications and data requirements. Conduct data modeling, including logical and physical database design, to support both operational and analytical databases. Collaborate with development teams to ensure that database systems integrate effectively with applications.
Optimize database queries and indexes to ensure the efficient retrieval and storage of data. Support database troubleshooting and assist with resolving issues related to data quality, integrity, and performance. Perform database testing and quality assurance to ensure the reliability and stability of database systems. Generate reports and conduct data analysis to support decision-making for state agencies. Assist with database backups and recovery procedures as part of the disaster recovery plan.
and skills
strong understanding of database design principles, data modeling, and normalization techniques. Proficiency in sql and experience with query optimization and performance tuning. Knowledge of relational database systems (e.g., oracle, sql server, mysql) and experience working with these technologies. Familiarity with data analysis and reporting tools. Ability to work closely with both technical teams (developers, dbas) and non-technical stakeholders (business users, project managers).
Strong analytical skills and the ability to work with complex data structures and business requirements. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Experience with sql and database query optimization. Good communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field. Three years of experience in database analysis, database design, or database management.
