Summary of

Job Duties

The In‑House Agency RN Program offers PRN employment on Med/Surg inpatient units or in the Emergency Department for 13‑week intervals. Participants work 36 hours/week for 13 weeks at an hourly rate plus night/weekend differentials. Candidates must hold a valid RN license issued by the State of Arkansas and have 12 months of acute‑care hospital experience, including 6 months in a direct patient‑care role.

Applicants cannot be currently employed by UAMS, and prior UAMS employees must have terminated more than 180 days before.

The Registered Nurse will provide direct patient care, coordinate care, triage patients, collaborate with clinic providers, and develop individual health plans.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program with an associate degree, diploma, bachelor, or master’s degree.
  • Valid RN license.
  • One year of patient‑care experience similar to the position.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong work ethic and accountability.
  • Specialty areas such as Intensive Care, F4 Surgical Trauma required to pass pre‑screening test with a minimum score of 80%.
  • Chemotherapy certification may be required for oncology units.
  • Work one major holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Christmas Eve or New Year) and one additional holiday, plus two weekend shifts.
  • PRN staff limited to 1000 hours in a 12‑month rolling year.
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Preferred: 2 or more years of RN experience.

Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse delivers nursing care within the limits of the Nurse Practice Act of Arkansas and adheres to institutional policies and standards.

Responsibilities include:

  • Collect and document assessment data.
  • Develop a Plan of Care (POC).
  • Implement POC in collaboration with medical orders and interdisciplinary team.
  • Evaluate patient progress toward desired outcomes.
  • Administer medication and provide drug information to patients/families.
  • Act as a resource/support for others.
  • Deliver patient care using defined nursing modalities.
  • Delegate care based on UAMS standards and legal requirements.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment and serve as a resource for student nurses.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
  • Stand, sit, walk frequently.
  • Frequently bend, crawl, crouch, kneel, stoop or reach overhead.
  • Lift and carry up to 25 lbs; push/pull up to 25 lbs.
  • Use hands to touch, handle, feel; taste or smell occasionally.
  • Read, concentrate, think analytically continuously.
  • Work inside a medical facility environment.
Brief Considerations

Pre‑employment screening includes a criminal background check and substance abuse testing. Applicants must be capable of donning and performing routine tasks in PPE including N95 masks, PAPR or CAPR.
