Summary of
Job Duties:
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct patient care to assigned patients in the combined Transitional Care (A7) and Short Stay (A4) units. A7/A4 is composed of 27 adult medical surgical beds collectively. These unique units with smaller bed capacity and medically stable patients support the opportunity to fully implement the RN and LPN team model of care. A shared charge RN will oversee shift to shift operations of both units, allowing for staffing flexibility tailored to meet the changing care needs of those populations.
The 14 bed Transitional Care Unit (A7) will provide care to patients who are deemed ready for acute care discharge from UAMS by their physician and have experienced a delay in discharge. The 13 bed Short Stay Unit on (A4) will provide care to medical-surgical patients that meet specific criteria for stability, and are anticipated to discharge within 48 hours.

Required Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program with Associate Degree, Nursing Diploma, Bachelor’s in Nursing, or Master’s in Nursing.
- Valid RN License.
- One year of Registered Nursing direct patient care experience.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Strong work ethics and accountability.
Preferred Qualifications:
- National Certification
- BSN or MSN
- Two or more years of nursing experience with a minimum of 1 year in an acute care setting such as a teaching hospital
Key Responsibilities:
- The Registered Nurse delivers nursing care for patients within the limits of the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Arkansas and adheres to institutional policies, procedures and standards.
- The Registered Nurse is responsible to adhere to the standard of care defined by UAMS, ANA, and Standards for specialty patient population with support and mentoring by other team members.
- Collects and documents assessment data.
- Develops a Plan of Care (POC) per standard.
- Implements POC including medical order and interdisciplinary approach.
- Evaluates the progress of patient toward attainment of desired outcomes.
- Provides effective patient/family education/discharge planning.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Employees in this role must be fitted for, capable of donning and performing routine tasks in personal protective equipment to include N95 masks, Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR) or Controlled Air Purifying Respirators (CAPR).
