Rhino Medical is leading the charge seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for a Hospital Medicine locum tenens opportunity in Fort Smith, Arkansas

This is an adult inpatient opportunity within a 194-bed hospital
, supported by a substantial daytime hospitalist team and Epic EMR. Day coverage includes four physicians plus one NP/PA
, creating a collaborative environment for an experienced advanced practice provider joining the Hospital Medicine service.
The target start is no later than October 1, 2026
. An active Arkansas license must already be in hand at the time of presentation

- APP Coverage: 8:00 AM–8:00 PM
The daytime structure gives the APP direct access to an established physician hospitalist team while caring for adult inpatients.
Clinical ResponsibilitiesThe NP/PA will function as part of the Hospital Medicine service, with responsibilities consistent with credentialed scope and experience, including:
- Evaluate and manage adult hospitalized patients
- Perform inpatient assessments and follow-up care
- Develop and implement appropriate treatment plans
- Review laboratory, imaging, and diagnostic findings
- Coordinate care with hospitalist physicians and multidisciplinary teams
- Support safe transitions and continuity of inpatient care
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in Epic
- Respond appropriately to changes in patient clinical status
Nurse Practitioners must meet the following criteria:
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
- Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP)
- Board Certified in the appropriate acute care specialty
- Active, unrestricted Arkansas NP license already in hand
- DEA registration with Arkansas address
- Current ACLS
- Current BLS through the American Heart Association
- Recent Hospital Medicine/inpatient clinical experience strongly preferred
The required NP certification is specifically acute care focused
. Primary care-only NP certification does not satisfy the stated credentialing requirement.
Physician Assistants must meet the following criteria:
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
- Appropriate national certification
- Active, unrestricted Arkansas PA license already in hand
- Active DEA registration
- Current ACLS
- Current BLS through the American Heart Association
- At least 2 years of recent clinical experience in the applicable specialty
- Recent Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Hospital Medicine, or comparable adult inpatient experience
The client is prioritizing candidates who can move efficiently through credentialing.
- Active Arkansas license required before presentation
- Licensure candidates cannot be submitted
- Clean credentialing files required for Temporary Privileges
- Appropriate DEA registration required
- Current certification documentation must be available
Candidates with significant credentialing issues may not qualify for the temporary privilege pathway.
