Quality Control Technician

The Quality Control Technician selects products and prepares samples for testing at specified stages in the production process, ensuring that all items meet defined standards for dimensions, performance, and mechanical or chemical characteristics. This role sets up and performs both destructive and nondestructive tests on materials, parts, and finished products to measure performance, service life, and material properties. Time on shift is divided between lab desk work, hands-on testing, and work on the production floor, with responsibilities handed off clearly from one shift to the next.

• Select products and prepare samples for testing at designated stages of the production process in accordance with required standards.
• Conduct tests to evaluate product qualities such as dimensions, performance, and mechanical or chemical characteristics.
• Set up and perform destructive tests on materials, parts, and products to determine performance limits, durability, and service life.
• Set up and perform nondestructive tests to assess material characteristics and product integrity without causing damage.
• Accurately use gauges and measuring tools, including micrometers and calipers, to verify dimensions and tolerances.
• Interpret and work from blueprints to understand product specifications and testing requirements.
• Document test procedures, results, and observations using Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel.
• Rotate through lab desk work, testing activities, and on-the-floor tasks throughout each shift as part of a structured workflow.
• Continue work from where the previous shift left off, maintaining continuity of testing and documentation.
• Communicate clearly with the next shift regarding the status of tests, outstanding tasks, and any issues identified.
• Support overall quality control and quality assurance processes in a machine shop environment.

• Proficiency in using gauges and precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel, for documentation and reporting.
• Hands-on experience with quality control and quality assurance processes in a production or laboratory setting.
• Ability to perform both destructive and nondestructive tests on materials, parts, and products.
• Competence in working with laboratory equipment and testing tools.
• Strong attention to detail when measuring, recording data, and verifying product specifications.
• Effective communication skills for coordinating work across shifts and documenting test progress.

• Experience working in a machine shop or similar manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measurement instruments.
• Comfort with rotating between lab desk tasks, hands-on testing, and production floor activities.
• Basic computer literacy beyond Microsoft Office, including general file management and data entry.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and maintain productivity across different stages of the testing process.

This role is based in a machine shop environment that is not climate controlled, so temperatures can be hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Shifts run Monday through Friday for second shift (3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.) and third shift (11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.), with an additional weekend day shift on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., where employees work 36 hours and are paid for 40.
