Quality Control Technician

The Quality Control Technician selects products and prepares samples for testing at defined stages of the production process, ensuring that all items meet required standards for dimensions, performance, and mechanical or chemical characteristics. In this role, you set up and perform both destructive and nondestructive tests on materials, parts, and finished products to measure performance, lifespan, and material properties according to established specifications.

You rotate through lab desk work, hands-on testing, and on-the-floor activities during each shift, maintaining clear communication with the next shift to ensure continuity of testing and documentation.

• Select products and prepare samples for testing at specified stages of the production process in accordance with established procedures and standards.
• Conduct a variety of tests to evaluate product qualities such as dimensions, performance, and mechanical or chemical characteristics against required specifications.
• Set up and perform destructive tests on materials, parts, or products to determine performance limits, durability, and lifespan.
• Set up and perform nondestructive tests on materials, parts, or products to measure performance and material characteristics without causing damage.
• Rotate through lab desk work, testing activities, and on-the-floor responsibilities throughout the shift, following the workflow established by the previous shift.
• Document test results accurately using Microsoft Office applications and maintain clear records for quality assurance and traceability.
• Communicate test status, findings, and any issues to the next shift to ensure seamless handover and continuity of quality control activities.
• Work collaboratively with production and laboratory teams to support adherence to quality standards and resolve any product quality concerns identified during testing.

• Proficiency in using gauges and measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers to verify product dimensions and tolerances.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints to understand product specifications and testing requirements.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel, to document test procedures, record data, and prepare reports.
• Hands-on experience with quality control or quality assurance practices in a production or laboratory setting.
• Ability to work effectively across lab desk, testing stations, and production floor environments while maintaining attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills to provide clear handoffs between shifts and collaborate with team members.

• Familiarity with machine shop operations and manufacturing processes is an advantage.
• Comfort working with various gauges and measurement instruments beyond micrometers and calipers.
• Basic understanding of mechanical or chemical properties of materials used in manufacturing.
• Ability to adapt to rotating tasks and changing priorities during the shift.

This position operates in a machine shop environment that is not climate controlled, so temperatures can be hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Work is performed across laboratory desk areas, testing stations, and on the production floor. Shifts run Monday through Friday on first shift (7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.), second shift (3:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.), and third shift (11:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.).

There is also a weekend day shift (Saturday, Sunday, Monday) from 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m., where employees work 36 hours and are paid for 40. The environment includes typical machine shop equipment and testing apparatus used for quality control and laboratory work.
