Research Scientist, Postdoctoral Research Fellow
The Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute in conjunction with the Department of Pathology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is seeking an energetic and innovative scientist to serve as Vice-Chair of Research in the Department of Pathology. We are seeking a highly motivated scientist with expertise in cancer biology, molecular mechanisms, or related applied disease research to join our collaborative and rapidly growing Cancer Institute research program
The next Pathology Vice-Chair of Research will serve as a member of the departmental leadership team and will lead the experimental pathology division within the department. The next leader for this role should have a passion for discovery, commitment to mentorship, and a sustained track-record of funding and publication success. The successful candidate will have access to state-of-the-art core facilities and a highly collaborative research environment.
Opportunities for collaborations with clinical programs at UAMS and within the Cancer Institute are abundant and consist of a FACT-accredited transplant service, renowned myeloma center, and subspecialized pathology services. In addition, there is an extensive clinical trials infrastructure and tumor bank supported by the Cancer Institute.
The Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute is the only cancer center in the state of Arkansas with a robust cancer research portfolio and a mission to improve cancer outcomes for all Arkansans. Its 190+ members conduct outstanding cancer research within Cancer Therapeutics, Cancer Biology, and Cancer Prevention & Population Sciences research programs. Cancer Institute members receive approximately $40 million in extramural cancer research funds annually, including multiple COBRE grants.
The Cancer Institute has five institutional shared resource facilities and has hired 40 laboratory-based cancer researchers in recent years. Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute researchers also lead four cancer-focused NIH-funded Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE’s).
- Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or comparable degree in cancer biology, molecular biology, or a related field.
- At least 7 years of postdoctoral research experience with demonstrated productivity.
- Strong record of external funding and strong record of peer-reviewed publications.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience mentoring students, research staff, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty
Candidates must be eligible for an academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or above.
