Job Objective

This position is responsible for promoting a safety culture through practicing safe and healthful work practices. The Zoo Safety Ranger is responsible for assisting the Safety and Training Coordinator in safety operations including responding to emergencies with guests or staff, performing safety audits, incident investigations, and patrols of grounds to ensure safety and security for guests and staff. The Zoo Safety Ranger must maintain a visible and approachable attitude to meet the needs of our guests and staff.

This is a safety/security sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, skills, and abilities generally acquired through a high school education and continuing education. Requires (1) year of experience in occupational safety and health or security or law enforcement; (1) year of computer experience. Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED is required. OSHA 10‑hour course or suitable safety training is required (OSHA 10‑hour course and First Aid, CPR may be obtained after employment).

Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Additional Requirements
  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work different shifts, weekends, evenings, and special events.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D Driver’s License.
Benefits

Regular part‑time employees who work 1,500 hours shall receive six days of Sick Leave upon completion of the 1,500 hours. Unused Sick Leave may accumulate to a maximum of fifteen days. Regular part‑time employees who are in pay status for at least 1,500 hours during the year receive Vacation Leave: up to 10 years of service—5 days per year; 10 years or more—7½ days per year.
