JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for analysis, installation, repair, and maintenance of the electrical systems and fixtures within Pulaski County buildings and facilities and the provision of oversight and direction of contracted electrical work.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Troubleshoots and repairs malfunctions in existing electrical systems including wiring, equipment, motors, switches, and fixtures.
- Operates various hand and light power tools to splice wires, solder connections, cut or drill wiring holes for fixtures, attach and anchor fixtures and conduit, and cut, bend, and pull wire through conduit.
- Operates various meters to test voltage, amperage, and continuity of electrical circuits.
- Analyzes the functioning and condition of the electrical systems and fixtures within County buildings; develops an overall plan of system maintenance ensuring adequate service levels are provided.
- Reviews electrical system plans and specifications for proposed electrical systems; makes recommendations regarding the type of system needed and the required installation process.
- Inspects the work of contractors to ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Maintains an inventory of needed electrical system supplies and materials; completes requisitions to purchase as needed.
- Assists with the preparation of equipment specifications and scope of work when needed for the replacement of electrical systems; designs and draws electric circuitry for electrical wiring systems.
- Computes the required capacity of materials and fixtures for new facilities based upon the type of equipment and fixtures to be installed and the voltage and amperage requirements.
- Maintains required records of all electrical system repair and parts replacement.
- Responds to electrical system malfunctions 24 hours a day as required.
- Performs other related duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Duties are performed within various County facilities involving electrical system repair and installation. The position must remain on-call during assigned periods.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
- Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations governing the installation and maintenance of electrical systems.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the standard tools, methods, materials, and practices of the electrical trade.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions involved with the installation and repair of electrical systems and fixtures.
- Considerable knowledge of isometric drawings.
- Good knowledge of computer-aided drafting software.
- Ability to compute the capacity required for electrical systems and fixtures for adequate service levels.
- Ability to read and interpret building plans and specifications and project proposals.
- Ability to prepare written reports and recommendations.
- Ability to analyze system capacity to ensure adequate service levels.
- Ability to determine work materials and supplies needed for job completion.
- Ability to remain on-call when necessary.
- Ability to review contractor work for compliance with specifications.
- Ability to diagnose malfunctions in electrical systems.
- Ability to establish and maintain a record-keeping system.
- Ability to attend work regularly and reliably.
- Skill in the use and care of hand and light power tools.
- Skill in the use of a computer.
- Ability to climb ladders to make inspections and repairs.
- Ability to lift and carry loads up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in a bent or kneeling position for extended periods of time.
