Summary
Park Guide, GS-0090-05 position located at Arkansas Post National Memorial in Gillet, Arkansas. Career‑Seasonal appointments are permanent and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but provide work only during the season. The seasonal non‑pay status runs approximately from early October to mid‑October.
Major Duties- Serve as a front‑line representative of the organization to greet customers and answer questions.
- Provide current, accurate information to visitors concerning surrounding areas of interest, such as recreational opportunities and available interpretive services, activities, or presentations.
- Use computer software for internet research, word processing, and data entry to accomplish work.
- Provide information to the public about cultural, historical, or natural science oriented topics to answer questions, stimulate interest, and appreciation.
- Operate standard office equipment other than computers (e.g., telephone, fax, photocopier, calculator) to accomplish work.
To qualify based on education, submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution, including name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade‑point average or class ranking. Transcripts are not required to be official at application but must be provided if education is used for qualification. Foreign education must be evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpreting foreign education programs, and the evaluation must demonstrate equivalence to an accredited U.S. education program.
Requirements- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
- Participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- Serve a 1‑year probationary period (or 2‑year trial period if applicable) during which fitness and suitability for continued employment will be evaluated.
- Background check, including OPM/DoD files and an FBI National Criminal History Fingerprint Check, must be completed prior to start.
The work requires standing for long periods, walking long distances, climbing and descending steep inclines, bending, and lifting moderately heavy items. Mental stress and fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts, occasional emergency responses, and repetitive nature of interpretive programs.
Working ConditionsWork is performed both indoors and outdoors, resulting in exposure to a variety of weather conditions. The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster.
Other InformationA selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected. The display of a salary range on this vacancy shall not be construed as granting an entitlement to a higher rate of pay. This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate.
