Requisition

Position Summary

Pilot of a small vessel that helps larger crafts steer in tight spaces where their engines cannot safely reach full power.

Experience Level

Skilled

Primary Responsibilities and Duties
  • Make sure the tug is in good working condition.
  • Inspecting the engines, including but not limited to oil, fuel, leaks, unusual noises and etc.
  • Inspecting the deck and winches to ensure they are good working conditions.
  • Inspecting the lines and rope for any tear.
  • Keep track of all of the necessary paperwork that is required by the United States Coast Guard (USCG).
  • Be able to communicate with other vessels like barges, ships and other tugboats to coordinate safe operations. This means knowing proper radio etiquette and communicating clearly and effectively.
  • Being responsible for everyone on board their vessel and ultimately all of the vessel's operations.
  • Maybe asked to instruct/train employees in the safe operations.
Qualifications
  • May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Must possess knowledge skills and abilities for position;
    Some wind experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management/supervision.
  • Knowledge of the safe and efficient use of tools and equipment such as, power and non-powered hand tools, tugboats.
  • Be licensed Tug Boat Captain.
Requirements
  • Able to meet all physical requirements.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Able to work overtime, nights, and weekends as required by the workload.
  • Observe and comply with all OSHA regulations and safety & project rules.
  • Performs other duties as required.
