Material Handler, Forklift Operator
Description
The Shipping & Receiving Clerk is responsible for receiving incoming materials, preparing outgoing shipments, maintaining accurate inventory records, and ensuring all products are handled safely and efficiently. This role plays a critical part in keeping production and customer deliveries on schedule.
Requirements Receiving- Receive, inspect, and verify incoming shipments against purchase orders, packing slips, and delivery documentation
- Reconcile packing lists to purchase orders and identify discrepancies in quantity or part numbers
- Verify and reconcile any discrepancies found by accounting in quantity, pricing, or part numbers
- Enter accurate receipt transactions into ERP system and ensure materials are properly received for accounting and inventory purposes
- Submit completed and verified receiving documentation to Accounting to support timely vendor invoice processing and payment
- Communicate and receive discrepancies with Purchasing and Accounting, including shortages, damages, incorrect items, or missing documentation
- Track and follow up on open receiving issues until fully resolved and closed
- Unload trucks using forklift or pallet jack (as required)
- Label, tag, and store materials in proper warehouse locations following company procedures
- Document and report damaged, non-conforming, or suspect materials and assist with corrective action as needed
- Pick, pack, and prepare customer orders accurately
- Verify product counts and ensure correct items are shipped
- Generate shipping labels and required documentation
- Coordinate with carriers (UPS, Fed Ex, LTL, etc.)
- Ensure shipments meet company quality and packaging standards
- Assist with cycle counts and physical inventory
- Maintain organized warehouse layout
- Monitor inventory levels and report discrepancies
- Follow FIFO procedures where applicable
- Follow all warehouse safety procedures
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Use required PPE
- Comply with company policies and OSHA standards
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1–2 years of shipping/receiving or warehouse experience preferred
- Basic computer skills (ERP or shipping software experience a plus)
- Forklift certification (or ability to obtain)
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Basic understanding of warehouse safety standards and OSHA compliance
- Experience meeting daily shipping deadlines and productivity goals
- 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment
- Experience using ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Net Suite, Epicor, etc.)
- Experience with UPS, Fed Ex, and LTL freight shipping processes
- Forklift certification and recent operating experience
- Familiarity with inventory cycle counting and physical inventory processes
- Experience working with Bills of Lading and export documentation
- Strong math skills and ability to verify counts accurately
- Lean, 5S, or continuous improvement experience
- The work performed is conducted in a climate-controlled facility.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. at a time.
- Prolonged periods sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
- Manufacturing / warehouse setting
- Exposure to varying temperatures depending on season
- Noise levels consistent with warehouse operations
