Compensation

$115,000–$145,000 annually, depending on experience, qualifications, technical expertise, and leadership experience. Bonus opportunity available based on individual and firm performance.

We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager (CPA or EA) to lead our Tax Department and serve as a member of the firm's leadership team. This is a high-impact role responsible for department performance, staff development, workflow management, quality control, client advisory services, and complex tax engagements.

The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the future of the firm by developing team members, strengthening client relationships, improving operational effectiveness, and contributing to long‑term strategic growth. For the right individual, this position offers a potential pathway toward future LLC Member consideration.

Position Summary

The Tax Manager is responsible for leading the firm's tax department while maintaining direct involvement in complex tax engagements. This individual will oversee workflow, staffing, quality control, deadlines, training, technical research, client relationships, and department profitability. Success in this role requires a combination of strong technical tax expertise, leadership ability, business judgment, and commitment to developing others.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Manage department workflow, staffing allocations, and internal deadlines.
  • Monitor department performance, realization, utilization, and quality metrics.
  • Lead staff development, mentoring, and performance review processes.
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding team members.
  • Coordinate department training and continuing education requirements.
Technical Tax Leadership
  • Prepare and review complex Forms 1040, 1065, 1120S, 1120, 1041, 709, and 990 engagements.
  • Research complex tax issues and develop defensible tax positions.
  • Establish and communicate firm tax policies and technical guidance.
  • Oversee extension management, e-file administration, and notice resolution.
  • Maintain high standards of quality control across all engagements.
Client Advisory & Practice Growth
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to business and individual clients.
  • Provide proactive tax planning and consulting services.
  • Manage key client relationships and meetings.
  • Support firm growth through business development and client retention efforts.
Qualifications Required
  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation.
  • Credential maintained in good standing.
  • Significant experience preparing and reviewing complex tax returns.
  • Experience supervising and developing tax professionals.
  • Strong tax research, communication, and client service skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality and deadlines.
Preferred
  • Public accounting management experience.
  • Experience leading a tax department or service line.
  • Strong business development and relationship management skills.

This position begins as an in-office role to support training, onboarding, team integration, and client service excellence. After successful acclimation and demonstrated performance, a hybrid work arrangement may be available.
