Responsibilities- Assist with the daily supervision and care of youth ages 5-16.
- Assist in operating the program in compliance with the Colorado State Licensing, Jefferson County Health Department, District Guidelines, and any other regulations or licensing standards that apply to Children’s Programs.
- Maintain a safe environment for program participants and ensure that proper safety precautions are being followed during programs, field trips, and all excursions.
- Facilitate activities such as arts, science, building and dramatic play in a classroom setting or gross motor games in the gym or outside.
- Assist with completing and maintaining children’s files, reports, records, and other documents, and collect forms and information from parents/guardians as required by the program; maintain confidentiality of child and parent information.
- Assist in the daily set-up and delivery of program by organizing daily routines, snacks and meals, playground supervision while maintaining a clean and orderly environment and care of program materials and supplies.
- Participate in all aspects of camp such as working outdoors, playing with energetic youth, and joining youth in weekly swimming and field trips.
- Collaborate with other Summer Camp staff to plan activities and build a place where we all love to work and play.
- Assist with staff supervision by keeping proper staff ratios, managing staff schedules, assisting with the training and coaching of part-time staff.
- Communicate effectively, professionally, and regularly with the supervisor, teammates and families through verbal and written communication; maintain confidentiality.
- Cultivate an inviting and nurturing environment for every child.
- Build trusting relationships while using excellent judgement with children, families and co-workers.
- Use positive behavior reinforcement and developmentally-appropriate guidance techniques to encourage appropriate behavior, inform supervisor if assistance is needed with behavior management, and provide documentation of inappropriate behavior.
- Report incidents of suspected child abuse to proper authorities.
- Attend work on a regular basis, be reliable and punctual.
- Be flexible and positive in an intense and dynamic work environment; utilize creative problem solving within an intense, dynamic, and sometimes challenging environment.
- Ability to make quick, rational decisions in situations affecting the safety and wellbeing of program participants and possess the ability to carry out such decisions.
- Must be at least twenty‑one (21) years of age.
- Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Elementary Education, Human Services or a directly related field, OR associate’s degree in a directly related field and one (1) year full‑time experience working in a similar setting involving school‑age children, OR three (3) years of full‑time experience working in a similar setting with school‑age children.
- Must meet appropriate Colorado State Licensing School‑Age Director requirements/qualifications and provide all documentation as required by the State of Colorado’s Department of Early Childhood upon hire.
- Knowledge, understanding, and application of positive classroom management skills, positive reinforcement and child redirection.
- Be able to obtain all trainings required to work in a licensed childcare environment (such as CPR, First Aid, Mandated Reporter Training, Playground Safety, Injury Prevention and Medication Administration, as well as 15 hours of annual training provided by employer).
- Pass TRAILS and CBI/FBI fingerprint background checks for working in licensed childcare.
