Arts & Enrichment Ceramics/Pottery Instructor I - II for Evenings/Weekends (Part-Time, Non-Exempt)

: $17.05 - $22.75 per hour

Position Summary

Under the close supervision of the Arts and Enrichment Coordinator, this position teaches art and enrichment classes for all ages in both group and individual settings. This position primarily teaches ceramics classes and may teach other classes based on individual expertise. Classes are normally in the evenings and on weekends, with some daytime offerings. The instructor will teach wheel throwing and, when needed, handbuilding.

Duties
  • Plan and instruct art and enrichment classes for participants with varying levels of skill and ability; participate in each class and adapt instruction to meet participant needs.
  • Maintain course records and rosters.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers, patrons and coordinators.
  • Present art to students by showing examples, provide tools and raw materials, and teach proper use of tools and materials.
  • Promote arts and enrichment programming.
  • Ensure appropriate equipment and supplies are available for classes and events; set up and take down; perform required cleaning.
  • Inspect and report tool/equipment condition for safe use; monitor supply inventory to prevent waste.
  • Be prepared, creative and energized when teaching; provide a safe learning environment and manage the classroom effectively; keep students in line of vision at all times.
  • Enforce safety, rules, policies and regulations; recognize emergencies and administer first aid as needed; complete Accident/Incident reports.
  • Respond to public inquiries courteously and resolve complaints in a timely manner.
  • Report facility hazards and communicate issues to supervisor as needed.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, trainings, and orientations; travel to offsite events to instruct and lead classes.
  • Attend work regularly and punctually; arrange substitutes for scheduled shifts if unable to work.
Education and/or Experience Arts & Enrichment Instructor I
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have at least one (1) year of teaching experience in art.
  • Experience teaching art and/or enrichment is preferred.
Arts & Enrichment Instructor II
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years old with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have at least two (2) years of professional teaching experience in art.
  • Experience teaching art and/or enrichment is preferred.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements
  • Current AED/CPR and First Aid certifications preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within thirty (30) days of employment. Must be insurable by the District carrier for the duration of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of teaching and learning techniques and methodologies.
  • Ability to interact positively with children, students, parents, and staff; demonstrate constructive and caring communication.
  • Ability to work with students in a constructive and engaging manner while creating safe, fun art projects and teaching classroom safety.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work with diverse groups.
  • Flexibility and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
Materials and Equipment

Regular use of a phone, computer, and course-specific tools and equipment (e.g., art tools, clay).

Working Environment

Indoors in a classroom or recreation center; may work in busy office environments with interruptions. May work outside in variable weather when required.

Physical Requirements

Ability to demonstrate art techniques; ability to push/pull or balance; lift up to 25 pounds unassisted and up to 75 pounds with assistance. Vision requirements include near, far, depth, and color vision. Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, reach, and handle objects. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
